evening poem, March 6, 2018

What song would we sing tonight?

Now, when the days end in sunlight

And we see children’s toys again on the lawns

And all of twilight’s chill is gone

Bicycles on the street

Neighbors who meet

We’ll relax now in a way we haven’t since September

And think of how the clear water beckons; remember

The wading and the diving in

Those golden days will come again

We can feel it now, the warm breeze guarantees it

And even the snow on the mountain sees it

It has to let go and melt at last

Summer days are comin’ fast
