The Last Day of Winter

Wake early on the last day of winter

Once more don the clothes that lay on the shelves

The coat, the hat, the gloves, the scarf

Wrap yourself warm

And boil and fry your breakfast

Eggs and oatmeal, biscuits too

Outside the frost is still alive

It will not wait for you

We’ll run up the hill to the frozen spring

And dash in the last drifts of snow

And think one last time of the Christmas

That passed only three months ago

Then days were short and nights were long

But now the sun is high

Look for the frost before it fades

The year is passing by
