Morning Poem #2, March 6, 2017

In early days

In early morning

The schoolyard sat in sunlight

The swings, the slide, the linden trees

Someone had prayed for all

While men were on the battlefield

Peace covered this little acre

And women in print dresses smiled

As they watched the children grow

All is quiet now

As the long morning shadows recede

But in an hour the children will burst through the doors

Like a bright tide

And the grounds will sound with their laughter
