Night Poem,February 2, 2017

In the sonority of the quiet night

Purple clouds drift under the half moon

Like veils, they hide only details

And diffuse white brightness

Spilling over their fine edges.

The creatures of the wild and of man’s imagining

Climb the hillsides and rest above, waiting

To howl and to hear the midnight tollings

On the silver lake the princess skates

Torches burning in the courtyard

Servants leading horses

And carrying spiced wine
