Morning Poem, December 9, 2016

 

 

 

Forget the moment

For the moment, at least

Forget all that presses in

All you are paying for

And all that you hope to afford

 

Look out the window at the grass

And those creatures that fly

Lifting themselves into

The invisible air

As if there was nothing to it

And the grey squirrels that run down the telephone lines

Lighter than nothing, holding on to nothing

And dropping from a tree-trunk into some

Web of slender branches that bend with its weight

And wrestling, busily to the ground.

 

Does not your heavenly Father feed and clothe even these?

 

Forget your plans

For the moment

What you think your heart desires

Is not your heart’s desire

Be calm and listen
