In The Heart of Summer

The full treetops spread and press against the blue sky
Bending and waving
“Look how much we’ve grown,” they say
“See us in our strength arrayed”

The breeze lifts the lower branches
Like palms waved over a sleeping princess
And clear water rushes from brook to lake
All bathed in golden light

Here in the heart of summer.
