mid-day poem, june 8, 2016

moving under the blue sky
the only sound is jazz
piano, drums: beat and melody
lighter than the air
moving, moving, moving, fast as jazz.

sailing under a blue sky
over the green ocean
our speed and force
levels out the waves
We are as fast and smooth
as piano jazz; as saxophone music
we keep going.

by the highway on the mountain
Lee’s Cafe, surrounded by summer trees
lush and green
they’ve got veggies and fruit
on today’s lunch menu
all fresh today

faster than ever now
foot heavy on the pedal
rolling up the high mountain
and into Virginia, across the ridge
and see the great valley stretching away
the towns and farms and forests
and Pilate Mountain, that’s North Carolina
moving, moving, moving.
