Afternoon Poem, April 22, 2016

The men who played jazz
In the club by the river
Wore sport coats and hats
And made the notes shimmer

Like the stars on the face
Of that stream in the night
They found riffs and a pace
All dreamlike and bright

Piano, bass, drums and guitar
Pass through my window from afar
I see the string of colored lights
Below the moon the geese in flight

The river so deep
The music so blue
It lulled me to sleep
On this evening so cool
