morning poem, feb. 29, 2016

At five o’clock there was an hour till dawn
And the new rain was wet and cool
And smelled of the ocean
Six hundred miles away.

The raindrops splashed quietly
In the low breeze
Strong enough only to rustle
But not bend the branches
