Afternoon Poem, February 27, 2016

We’ve done well, you and me
Done it all, rose to every challenge

Will we have our reward?

Will we walk together down some gaslit lane
You in some dress made for the evening
You turning every head
Our twilight blue, not grey

And those who wait at the tall doors
To take hats and gloves
Will know our names
And tell the others we’ve arrived
