Mid Day Poem, April 14, 2015

JUNE 1970

In the last month of high school

Jealousy, rivalry and resentment

Were all put away.

They were gone with the mud and snow of winter

And it seemed like every bit of it

Up until then

Had been nothing but winter.

But for those few weeks

The sun shone on us

And we met together

At the fields and on the riverbanks

As brothers and sisters

All certain then of great things ahead.
