mid-day poem, march 19, 2015

The first green on the willow

Looks alien and contrived

As if painted on by vandals.

How could this bright, vivid color

These moist, tender shoots

Have any natural connection

To this brittle grey and brown

Of winter’s forest?

It is life from death.

Resurrection in slow motion.
